Movember Supporters: Genny & Maya!

Stache Pros, by Genny M:
  1. You can play hide-and-go seek with your fingertips.
  2. They’re a perfect storage space for crumbs and other savory treats you’d like to save for a more intimate moments.
  3. You can whip out your fancy moustache comb and start grooming yourself in the middle of an important meeting and immediately be offered a promotion and company car.
  4. You can get away with saying stuff like “indubitably” and “Jarvis, get my monocle, I want to read this morning’s London Times.”
  5. It’s a sure-fire way to scare girls into going out with you. Because let’s just face it, moustaches give a certain ‘convicted sex offender’ look to anyone who sports them…which, in the dating world, is something you definitely want to advertise.

 *** Maya's Anti-Stache Bullet Points ****
  1.  Paired with aviator shades, your face will look like a clichéd 70's cop, who will "shake you down" and ask you where the cocaine stash is!
  2. Women and children cross the street to avoid brushing past you.
  3. When getting freaky in the sheets your woman will undoubtedly fantasize about Tom Selleck, because he is the only man on Earth that can wear a strip of hair over his lip and still look sexy.
  4. On a -30 degree day your inevitable nose drippings will create a lovely design of boogersicles dangling from your upper lip.
  5. t looks like your eyebrows had a child and then made your lips babysit.

Movember Supporter: Andrea!

  1. My thoughts on ‘staches, in 25 words or less:
Relatively harmless, but no one pulls off the ‘stache like Mr. Tom Selleck :)

  2. If I could ensure that everyone read ONE book this month it would be this one:
A Fine Balance, by Rohinton Mistry, everyone should read this book, regardless of the month!

  3. The holidays are coming!
I’m looking forward to: visiting friends and family.
I am NOT looking forward to: air travel :(

Movember's canine supporters: Sam and Chloe!

Tina L. and her hubby Brandon brought Sam and Chloe out for a photo-romp in Saturday's new-fallen snow!  This image was shot at the very start of the shoot...and that was the last time they stood still for the next 40 mins!

Movember Supporters: Fetta and Corey

Happy

Happier

Super happy!

  1. If you could participate in a jam session with anyone in the history of music, who would your top 2 be?
Corey:
If I had the chance to jam, with one person, it would have to be the Dalai Lama, granted he knows how to play an instrument.   I think we would make some seriously groovy intergalactic tunes…
I know Dalai Lama doesn’t really have anything to do with the history of music ( at least I don’t think he does) but I’m keeping my answer anyway!!

Fetta:
The Beatles, without any hesitation,
And maybe Bon Jovi, just for my eyes pleasure….

  1. If you could post one word on a giant billboard in downtown Montreal, what would it be, and why?
Corey:
“ BREATHE” Because people have got to relax!

Fetta:
“ IMAGINE ”, the best philosophy ever. Everybody knows what that means

  1. Best date-night restaurant in Montreal, or if its not in Montreal, where and why?
Corey:
A little Korean place in Monkland Village, I think it is called 5000 years. Great place, it is really tiny so you have to go during the week or early one day during the week end.
The place is split up into about 3 or 4 individual rooms, and just has a really great atmosphere, and the food ain't bad to boot.

(MJ edit: they're opening up a second location in NDG!  On Sherbrooke, near Hingston!)

Fetta:
La Petite Marché , on St Denis/ St Joseph (le Plateau) home made food, (fishes, duck…lot of sauce…), not really expensive, those people are French so I feel like being home!  Even if, to be honest, we don’t eat that everyday in France, but still, it’s good sometime!

Movember Supporters: Cate and Riley

  1. What are you and Riley looking forward to most for the holidays?
We are looking forward to Santa Claus' visit.

  2. What is your Sunday brunch specialty?
    Pancakes

  3. The best concert you’ve ever been to:
I always think every concert is the best one I've ever been to.   Until I go to the next one....haha!

Robby & Masum: Movember supporters!

1.  Nifty robot necklace, Robby, did Masum help you pick it?

Haha, I actually stumbled upon it in a small shop one Saturday afternoon. I walked in with my friend and we were immediately greeted by this cute salesgirl that I just couldn't keep my eyes off of.   I got her attention by asking her about the robot necklace (his name is Mr. Charlie Chip by the way...the robot that is) and tried my hardest to keep the conversation going from there. We eventually left the shop (with the necklace), when my friend asked me if I got her name.   I stopped and stared at her for several moments, probably looking like a deer in headlights.  Eventually I bolted back into the shop and asked Masum for her name. So yes, she helped me pick it. That was exactly 90 days ago as of today.

2.  If you could have a superhuman ability over the holidays, what would it be and why?

If I could have any superhero ability this holiday it would be the power to make people spontaneously transform into cake.  It's no secret that I find most people thoroughly irritating and this is especially true during holidays.  I just think that they could serve a much better purpose by filling my tummy with sweet chocolaty goodness. Instead of pissing me off on the bus, metro, in malls or sometimes even on street corners.  But I don't want to ask for the impossible you know.   I would settle for the power to make people spontaneously combust instead...I'd probably be just as satisfied with the results...:)

3.  What are your top 3 animated films for a rainy weekend?

This is a hard one. I can definitely say that Paprika is one of my favorite animated films. Its Jap anime and is just plumb crazy from start to finish. Which is why I love it.  It's one of the most creative things I've seen and it makes me happy. Unlike rain.  I will also say Final fantasy: Advent children. Yeah its CG but that's still animation.  I don't need to explain this one.  It just looks Amazing!  Last will bee...hmmm.  I'm gonna say The nightmare before Christmas.  I don't know if claymation falls under the Animation category, but it;s Tim Burton...Hello!?!

Vance: Movember Supporter

  1. What one Maritimer Thing would you transplant to La Belle Ville if you could?

The Atlantic Ocean. I miss it. I think when I retire I’d like to be living on a shoreline somewhere on the coast of southern Nova Scotia.

  2. If you could write for one current TV show, what would it be, and why?

That’s tough. If I had to choose just one I guess I’d go with Boardwalk Empire. It’s still in the middle of its first season but I think it’s the best thing on TV. It mixes tension and humor so well and the story just kind of sprawls; each episode is like reading multiple chapters out of a really good book.

(If I had a second choice I’d go with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Those guys are clearly having a lot of fun.)

  1. If you could put ONE word on a downtown Montreal billboard, what it be, and why?

“Relax.” I find Montreal to be a pretty laid-back city but the traffic downtown can get downright hostile. Sometimes I feel like I’m playing Frogger when I cross the street, which isn’t as fun as it sounds. Just last week I came very close to getting hit by a car after the driver decided to burn through a red light after already coming to a full stop. Luckily I gave him a dirty look so he’s obviously learned his lesson.

Such a reflective bunch...

Sean: Movember Supporter - Turns out, he could probably kick you in the face.

How long have you been practicing Muay Thai?
" I'm creeping up on 2 years almost...started picking it up really fast, and paying for private lessons helped the learning curve."

When is your first fight?
"The tentative plan is for my first fight to be December 10th at Gamma.  If not, it will be in January, it all depends on if the card will be MMA only.  I'm Muay Thai/Kick boxing only."

Ernesto, Escarlette & Chico: Movember supporters

Ernesto asked if a longer portrait session was possible, so we worked something out and spent a happy half hour wandering around in an NDG park with his lovely gal and their six month old bundle of bowl-you-over canine energy: Chico!  I'd never photographed a pet before and the secret, as Ernesto taught me, is to have treats.  Trust me, it works!

  1. If I could make sure everyone listened to one album, it would be this one:

If I made sure everyone listened to one album I would make them listen to illmatic by NaS - the production is dark yet so musical and it featured great producers on the album like Pete Rock, Q-tip, Large Professor and DJ premier. And with Nas impeccable rhymes we get a sense of a artist who is a rose growing out of concrete in Queensbridge, New York.

  2. Best place for late night eats:

My personal favorite late night place to eat would most definitely be the world famous Grimaldi’s restaurant underneath the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City even if you have to wait in a 30+ min line you forget about all of that once you take a taste of that pie!

  3. If I could wake up in any city tomorrow, it would be this one:

That’s an easy question. Tokyo Hands Down - most people want to go there to see a futuristic city and all the new technology they can witness but they tend to forget that it has a deep ancient history and lots of site seeing places.
